My adventure got whittled down due to work, but I was determined to have an adventure nonetheless. Instead of 11 days and 5,000 miles, the trip is trimmed to 7 days and 2,600 miles. I'm posting on the road so that you get the full impact of the experience instead of waiting until weeks later and the sweat is long washed from my brow.
Today I rode from San Juan Capistrano to Flagstaff, AZ. I took the most scenic route I could think of but still ended up with a small stretch of Interstate, namely a piece of I-215 north of Perris, a small piece of I-10 between Beaumont and Palm Springs and yet another piece of I-17 just south of Flagstaff. Othewise, it was two lane bliss for me.
I rode through Parker, AZ at noon. I checked the weather and it was 105F! So, I took my time inside the AM/PM, drinking a large bottle of Gatorade and filling up my Camelbak with water and my jacket liner with ice. The next couple of hours were manageable and then I started gaining altitude.
I have never ridden 89A north of Prescott (pronounced PREScut, not presCOT) through Jerome and Sedona. What a road! I believe this is my favorite stretch of Arizona asphalt! I just told Nancy that we need to spend a weekend in Sedona even if we have to get there by car. What a neat town. Jerome is something else. It reminds me of a European town in that it is cut into the hillside connected by a very narrow road. I guess I should stop there sometime as well (I say to myself rhetorically "you think"?).
The section of 89A north of Sedona is very nice with the exception of the very slow traffic. Maybe the holiday weekend had something to do with that. The entire section from just south of Prescott to about five miles from Flagstaff was wonderful!
Sedona, AZ
After arriving in Flagstaff, I found my dump of a hotel and checked in. Nancy asked "So, it isn't four star?" I said "It probably isn't four dots!" But it will do for tonight.
Total for the day: 491 miles.
Tomorrow: Parachute, CO via Durango!

We have added BMW Motorcycles of Riverside to our list of interested and valued BMW Dealers. BMW of Riverside is a new operation. We had an opportunity to spend some time with Dan Schoo this past weekend at the Big Bear Rally. Dan is committed to great service for our community.
We discussed with him the forum we have set up for dealers which will give them an opportunity to keep us informed of their promotional events such as sales, shop sponsored rides and of course, the requisite hot dog events.
Keep an eye on this forum for upcoming events and plan to visit BMW Motorcycles of Riverside soon.
